The Evolution Of Chevy Cars Trucks & SUVs

by Noel U West

Being driven out of the General Motors, William Durrant decided to establish the Chevrolet Cars. This is together with the well known Swiss car racer of that time, Louis Chevrolet. The car designs of Chevrolet are big hit in the auto market that provided pretty large revenue to the company which in turn was used by Durrant to buy the majority of the stocks of GM. The big shares of stocks made possible his being elected as the president of the company thus regaining his reputation once again. Chevrolet Cars consecutively was integrated with the General Motors, to be one of its divisions later on.

Car models of Chevy Cars were known, just like any other brand model's name, with real names. But this is not true for the very fist Chevy Cars models for they were known in terms of their numbers. The company though perceived the need to change their naming scheme following the World War II episode. Various automobile types were offered by company during their early years of operation. They have offered sedans with two or four doors, mini vans, sports cars, crossovers and station wagons. The increasing public's demand on cars, crossovers and SUV's though has forced them to stop manufacturing mini vans and station wagons.

Chevy cars have undergone significant development over the years. Their vehicles continuously increased in size and power. The engines evolved from the four cylinder type to the more sophisticated six cylinder ones. During 1950's they even come up with the V8 engine to be incorporated to all vehicles manufactured in this period. The size of these vehicles can be very enormous the downside though is on their not so efficient fuel consumption.

As time passed by, the economic condition came to worst that people have difficulty paying for their monthly bills as well as high oil price. These triggered the company to venture with autos that can help in the budgeting of most individuals. That is vehicles that are relative smaller as compared to early versions but are far more efficient in their fuel consumption. The public loved this innovation from Chevrolet resulting to more sales invoice for the company. Definitely the company has made the right decision on this. Crossovers were the next generation of vehicles the company has focused on. This vehicle type was meant to supersede the mini vans as a family vehicle. Their crossovers were designed in such as way to have a better gas mileage and faade that can meet the standards of contemporary families as well as most individuals. Traverse is among their best seller under this category.

The global economic crisis affected most of the businesses in every sector. Chevrolet is not an exception. The company has faced the difficulty of high competition in the market as well as the high cost of raw materials and construction. However equipped with good marketing strategies the company was able to win the struggle with colors for they have maintained a relatively high status in the auto market till these days. Camaro and Corvette models can attest to that.
